Jim has taught at UWEC since 1983. He is the author of Sixty Million Acres: American Veterans and the Public Lands before the Civil War (Kent State University Press, 1990), and is the co-compiler with Louise A. Merriam of The New Writings in U.S. History: A Select Bibliography (Manchester University Press, forthcoming in 1995). He is the Online editor of H-Rural, a daily Internet listserv devoted to discussions of research and teaching in the fields of rural and agricultural history.
