How It Was Built This site was created using Microsoft Front Page 98 for Windows. Graphic images were prepared from first generation (original) 35 mm transparencies using either an HP PhotoSmart scanner with Adobe Photoshop 5.0 and Digital Frontiers HVS JPEG 2.0. Most graphic images were compressed using progressive JPEG technology. It is much more efficient than the older JPEG format—files are anywhere from one-half to two-thirds smaller than those compressed using older JPEG technology. It is recommended that visitors view the site with the latest version of Internet Explorer or Netscape. However, the site may be viewed with versions as low as Internet Explorer 3.0 or Netscape 2.0. Graphic images were prepared in a Microsoft Windows 95 environment (a PC). Because the gamma setting on PC and Mac monitors are different, images may appear to be a bit "washed out" on computers equipped with Mac monitors. A good deal of effort was made to make the site accessible to as many people as possible. Basic HTML technology was employed—there are no frames, animated GIFs, or Java scripts. Tables were used to control the appearance of pages so that each could be viewed on a standard 640 x 480 pixel screen set for 256 colors. However, pages containing graphic images are best viewed at higher resolutions (either 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768) using high (16 bit) color.
