H-Net, the parent organization for H-Pol, the Politics Network's official voice on the internet, has begun implementing a new agreement with the American Political Science Association to establish web pages, listserv discussion lists, and other internet services for many of APSA's organized sections and affiliated groups. Representatives of H-Net, including Mark Kornbluh of Michigan State University and Peter Knupfer of Kansas State University -- both political historians, H-Pol editors, and officers of H-Net -- attended APSA's annual conference in San Francisco in late August and early September.
Joined by David Halsted, manager of H-Net's technical staff at Michigan State University, Bob Cherny of San Francisco State University and editor of H-SHGAPE, H-Net's list on the progressive era and gilded age, Kornbluh and Knupfer visited APSA section meetings to discuss the ways that H-Net's internet services could enhance the sections' internal communications and expand membership. Under H-Net's agreement with APSA, the organized sections may establish moderated LISTSERV discussion lists and web sites on H-Net's server at Michigan State. APSA's web page will move to the server, as will the Political Science Research & Teaching List, currently moderated by Michael Margolis and Gary Klass.
Organized sections on undergraduate teaching, public administration, domestic sources of foreign policy, comparative politics, computers and multimedia, legislative studies, history and politics, and state politics are currently developing editorial boards for their respective lists and web pages. Some of the sections already have a strong presence on the World Wide Web; others will be following soon.
H-Net is an international consortium of scholars dedicated to developing electronic networks and resources in the humanities and social sciences. Its primary host institution is Michigan State University, and it is funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, Michigan State, and several other universities.
