CFP: Politics network, SSHA Proposals

Date: Thu, 11 Jan 1996 10:33:58 -0600

Thanks to those of you who have sent in proposals for the SSHA Political Network. And to those of you who have not sent proposals, please consider presenting a paper.

I have received one proposal for the session "Redefining the Political" and will check with the States and Societies Network to see if they have any other proposals for that session.

Do we have any daring souls who would like to be on a sesssion on the 1996 election?

Since 1996 is the 100th anniversary of the 1896 election, is anyone working on populism or the election of 1896? Three of the most important books in the new political history: Richard Jensen, The Winning of the Midwest, Paul Kleppner, The Cross of Culture, and Samuel McSeveney, The Politics of Depression all deal in one way or another with the politics of the 1890s. Would their be interest in doing a session on the impact these three books had on the study of political history?

The Labor Network is interested in a cross-national session on Anarchism and co-sponsoring the panel with the Politics Network.

I have received one proposal on the California Tax Revolt and that paper would fit nicely in the Taxation Policy Session proposed at the network meeting.

I am open to other ideas for sessions and from hearing from all of you. My address is sbarton@mailclerk.ecok.edu

[Editor's note: We hope that people will consider discussing proposal ideas online, in addition to sending them to Scott.]
