Triple Threat: Students Adapt, Produce, and Perform "Nick Adams" -- (2008) Grant Awarded: April 2007 Type of Grant: The Great Michigan Read Sponsor: Pit and Balcony Community Theatre Collaborators: Saginaw Art Museum Contact: Lee-Perry Belleau, Executive Director, 989-754-6588 or lpbelleau@pitandbalconytheatre.com Award: $8,000 Website: www.pitandbalconytheatre.com Hemingway’s The Nick Adams Stories will be adapted, written, produced, and performed by the middle-school students in the summer youth theatre program at Pit and Balcony. Not only will students gain theatre production skills, but additional learning skills in adapting a work of literature by Hemingway. Artists/scholars from the Saginaw Valley area will work with students on theatrical skills and training for performance, visual artists/scholars from the Saginaw Art Museum will work with them on developing stage scenery, and writers with the 303 Collective will work with the students on research and writing. A modest fee is charged for the performance but free tickets will be distributed through community networks serving those groups with financial need. |
