Reflection of White Lake – Its People, Their Stories -- (2008) Grant Awarded: April 2008 Type of Grant: The Great Michigan Read Sponsor: Nuveen Community Center for the Arts Collaborators: Montague High School, White Lake Senior Center, Montague Branch of the Muskegon District Library Contact: Janelle Mair, Director, 231-894-2787, janelle@artscouncilofwhitelake.org Award: $13,990 Website: www.artscouncilofwhitelake.org The Montague high school AP English class will read Hemingway’s The Nick Adams Stories and research local history using various resources, one being seniors in the community. Students will then write their own stories, poems, and/or biographies that reflect their community and people. Local artists will partner with students and interpret the writings into a visual format. Ultimately, a book of the student writings and artist works will be printed and an exhibit with an opening premier created. The exhibit will first be held at the art center and then will be housed permanently at the Montague High School. |
