Hemingway, Michigan Genesis -- (2007) Grant Awarded: November 2007 Type of Grant: We the People/The Great Michigan Read Sponsors: Alpena County Library Collaborators: Alpena Community College, Alpena High School, Jesse Besser Museum, Friends of the Alpena County Library Contact: Judi Stillion, 989-356-6188, jsacl@alpenalibrary.org Award: $7,197 Website: www.alpenalibrary.org A wide-range of programs are planned around TGMR over a three-month period involving the community as a whole. All will focus on Hemingway and his work to heighten awareness and understanding. Each will include analysis and discussion of the man, his work, and how it all relates to the human condition. At the end of the period, a trip to the western side of the state is being planned for high schoolers to visit many of the Nick Adams sites. With the exception of the tour guide and brochures, no grant money is being requested for the trip. Reading/discussion programs, Hemingway scholars, panel discussions, fly tying and fly fishing demos/discussions, cooking fish, a Hemingway film festival with discussion and comparison with the associated books, author presentations on Hemingway, creative writing, and the “Up North With the Hemingways” exhibit are all components of this program request.
