October 4-November 3
Art Gallery exhibit. "Ancient Sites Revisited: Watercolors of Egypt by Rana Chalabi" by Rana Chalabi. Gallery hours: M-F 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Th 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Private tours of exhibition available by appointment.

October 5.
5-7 p.m. Art Gallery Exhibit opening reception with Rana Chalabi. Art Gallery, Performing Arts Center, Allendale Campus. Prelude carillon concert to opening reception featuring Professor Julianne Vanden Wyngaard, university carillonneur, 4:30 p.m. Event is free and open to the public. Poetry Night; Academic Lecture; Art Exhibit & Lecture -- (2006)

Award: $15,000

Grand Valley State University (Allendale) was awarded a $15,000 grant for “Poetry Night: Academic Lecture; Art Exhibit and Lecture.” The project will include three public humanities programs: 1) a poetry night with two poets and discussion moderated by Grand Valley State’s poet-in-residence, followed by a book signing and reception; 2) an academic lecture followed by conversation with the audience; and, 3) a month-long art exhibit and a visit to Grand Valley State by artist Rana Shalabi. Ms. Shalabi paints watercolors of both ancient and modern Egyptian sites and she will present a public lecture where she shares her perspective on her art, its place in the world, and the public experience of it.
