State Stone

State Stone The Petoskey stone is actually a fossilized coral (Hexagonaria pericamata; Sloss) from a coral-reef that existed during prehistoric times in the northern Lower Peninsula. Adopted as the state stone by Public Act 89 of 1965, Petoskey stones are often made into jewelry and curios; the stones are also a favorite of collectors of all ages.
