Guides to Protestant Missions and Evangelism materials available
The Archives of the Billy Graham Center at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois collects materials on evangelism, specifically the efforts of North American Protestant Evangelicals to spread the Christian Gospel. Collections include oral history interviews, papers of individuals, records of organizations (including foreign mission boards) and materials from congresses and conferences.
Guides to some of the Archives' most
heavily used collections are now available on Wheaton College's Gopher.
These include collections with information about American
evangelism and missionary programs in Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South
America, and Australia as well as collections on the Evangelical
movement in the United States. Most of the materials in Archives are
from the twentieth century.
A number of the actual collections of the Archives of the Billy Graham Center at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, about American evangelistic and missions history can be accessed by users without ever visiting Wheaton, through the internet or interlibrary loan. These are 150+ collections available through interlibrary loan. The Wheaton gopher is accessible over Internet and through utilities with access to Internet, such as America Online. The gopher address is gopher.wheaton.edu. Once one enters the Wheaton Gopher, select "Wheaton College Information" from the menu, then "Wheaton College Manuscript Repositories" from the next menu, then "Billy Graham Center Archives" from the next menu. Then go to the interlibrary loan submenu.
There are also other BGC Archives materials and services available through the Gopher. These include, as mentioned above, guides to the most heavily used collections, transcripts of oral history interviews on missions, evangelism, urban ministries, etc.; and forms that can be used to order printouts of information on various topics than can be researched in the Archives. All of these can be accessed through the "Billy Graham Center Archives" submenu on the gopher.
