The second issue of "Tennessee History",
reporting on the ongoing exploration of the past
in the Volunteer State, is just off the press.
It's a theme issue on "Teaching
Tennessee History." The lead article is an
interview with Dr. Michael Hartoonian, president
of the National Council for the Social Studies.
He will be speaking at the meeting of the
Tennessee affiliate in March.
An article on "Increasing Resources for Tennessee's Classrooms" describes the work of Discover Tennessee, an organization of volunteers that has developed a resource guide, maps, and continuing education projects for history teachers. Dr. Jim Akenson, executive director of the Tennessee Council for the Social Studies, contributes a guest editorial on "What Teachers of Tennessee History Need."
