The Beecher Papers at Yale and printed sources, primary and secondary,
relating to the early career of Lyman Beecher, contain material on his
first ministry on Long Island.  I used some of these materials for parts of
a chapter on Beecher in "Cosmos Crumbling:  American Reform and the
Religious Imagination" (Oxford, 1994) and various other works relating to
the Beechers have described his early professional environs from original
sources.
