Subject: Late medieval English juries

From: Patricia.McCune@um.cc.umich.edu

I have been involved in a project that concerns jury behavior in the royal courts of England in the period between 1300 and 1550. Using legal records and a wide variety of other literature, I examine attitudes about pardon and punishment and their roles in late medieval governance. I would welcome information about those who are studying the jury in other contexts--in manorial or borough courts, in Wales or Scotland, etc. I also would like to learn of those who are doing similar work on the jury in other parts of Europe. Please contact me at: patricia.mccune@um.cc.umich.edu; if forwarding this query to those without e-mail at Program in British Studies, History Department, Haven Hall, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-1045.

Hi!
I would like to start researching Medieval English Law in general, saw your posting and thought perhaps you could help me. What would be a good survey work dealing with this topic? I have a little knowledge regarding the laws of Ine and Alfred, but that's about it. Thanks in advance,
Kris
