I would like to see your information on Judge Grimke. Was he an ancestor of famous feminist Sarah Grimke? You can snail mail me at Univ. of Ark. School of Law, Fayetteville, AR 72701 Attn: M. Gitelman. Thanks.

Yes he was the father of Sarah Grimke, of Angelina Grimke, of Henry Grimke, of Thomas Smith Grimke, of two Ann Rutledge Grimkes, of Benjamin Grimke, of etc, he had fourteen children in all, or rather Mrs. Polly Smith Grimke did. She was described by one source in 1784-the year she married as a gay carefree spirit and by 1808, she was considered an emotionally distant woman, who could not stand her husband's touch. I will forward more information later.

Judge Grimke was best known for his contributions and controversies in the state's politics at the turn of the eighteenth century. He is worthy of more attention that he has received. Is there anything specific you are interested in knowing about him? Let me know! Do you have a specific interest in him or just in the stories I have told so far? I'll be in touch. By the way, I am looking to find descendants of the old judge.
