Emory Law School recently approved a joint PhD-JD program, in which one could do the phd work in almost anything Emory offers. Last I heard, it hadn't officially cleared the graduate school, but it is possible for individuals to work out individual programs. You might try writing to the law school and to the head of the gov/poli sci department (sorry, I don't have that info handy, but it should be in the directories you've consulted)

In reply to the request about joint jd-ph.d programs, Yale has had one for a number of years, described in our graduate school brochure. We've had a number of people in political science who've obtained both degrees and history/law students are, I think, even more common. It is also a program the political science department and law school are looking to expand. Bruce Ackerman, Ian Shapiro and I work with many of these students. Rogers Smith, Yale Political Science.

Northwestern University has a joint JD-PhD program with all of the social science departments. There is great flexibility in structuring the program so that we can meet the needs of the participants. Candidates must be admitted both to the law school and the chosen social science department. If anyone wants more information please contact me.

I'd like more information please. I'm currently a Master's Student in Political Science at Northern Illinois University and am considering going to another school for my PhD. I would also like to pursue a law degree, and doing both at the same time would be wonderful.
Please send me any information you can about both the Northwestern Law School and the Joint Degree program. If you could also forward my name and adress to the Political Science Department there so they could send me information about their program, I'd appreciate it.
My E-Mail address is TI0ALM1@CORN.CSO.NIU.EDU
My real address is:
Alan MacNeill
319 North Second Street
Dekalb, IL 60115
or,
Alan MacNeill
Dept. of Political Science
Northern Illinois University
Dekalb, IL 60115
Either address will work until the fall, but after August 1, I will be moving so the Political Science Address is probably the best way to find me then.
Thank you for any help you can give,
Alan MacNeill
