    From: Rachel Grace Newman <rgn2109@columbia.edu>

I am comfortable working with texts in the humanities and social scientists (I am a
historian myself). I am currently a Ph.D. student and have done translation and editing on the side for two years.

    From: Sylvia Escarcega <sescarcega@gmail.com>

Qualifications & Experience: I am Spanish native speaker with a B.A. in History from the Universidad Iberomericana (Mexico) and with a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of California. I have been doing translation, copy-editing, proof-reading, and interpreting for over 20 years, while I have also conducted my own research and published in both Mexico and the USA.

Expertise: Indigenous Issues, Migration, Gender, Activism, Human Rights & International Law, however, I am familiarized with a wide variety of other areas in the social sciences & humanities.

I work closely with the authors to ensure that their own voices and academic needs are respected and met. My familiarity with many theories and bodies of knowledge facilitate this.

Description: Copyeditor with strong word sense, understanding of academic research and argument, documentation, and English and Spanish skills (MA). Experience in working with translators, translated materials, and bilingual writers in English. Personally committed to learning about Latin American culture and history and enthusiastic about working in those fields. Current work includes copyediting a major US journal in Latin American history and academic trade books in the same field. Unless you would like a different approach, I am an invasive editor, in the sense that I follow your argument and do my best to suggest ways to give it your strongest voice; I can also do a much more gentle reading, if needed. More detailed qualifications are at my website: http://proeditora.net/capabilities.html.
