There is an office called the MITWOHNZENTRALE in Berlin that rents apartments or rooms on a short- to mid-term basis.  The cost will vary, but you should expect to pay between 300 and 700 DM.  This office is basically a subletting agency, and it will charge you a nominal fee only if you succeed in finding a place.  The units are usually furnished, and you will sometimes share an apartment with one or more other people, but you will not need to share a room.  I do not have the correct address and phone number in Berlin, but you can find out the phone number by calling international information.  You might also have such an office in Barcelona that can give you their partners' address.

    Good luck!
