Skirball General Fields: Film research Background and Objectives: The Israel Filmography Database Project is compiling an annotated list of film and video material on Jewish/Israeli subjects. Data is being registered and prepared for publication as well as being made available to online searching via the Contemporary Jewry Database on the ALEPH computer network. All films listed are located in Israel, including the holdings of film archives, libraries, museums and special collections. The Filmography project is organized by subject, and the first volume to be published, Films of the Holocaust: An Annotated Filmography of Collections in Israel, contains annotated and indexed descriptions of films on the Holocaust and related subjects such as the rise of Nazism, partisans and righteous gentiles. The Filmography also includes films from Yad Vashem (The Holocaust Martyrs and Heroes Remembrance Authority) and Beit Lochamei Haghetaot (Ghetto Fighters' Museum), relevant clips from television news broadcasts and untitled miscellaneous footage. Current and Future Status: - Two thousand annotated and indexed film description are available online through the ALEPH computer network. - Volume I of the Filmography on the Holocaust is scheduled for publication in 1989 by Garland Publishing Inc. in New York. - Future volumes are planned, with the next to cover Israel, pre-1948 film material.
