This full time position will be open to specialists in any field of Jewish Law. Candidates should be effective communicators and teachers. Responsibilities will include teaching BA and MA courses, PhD supervision, and active engagement in research. In addition, the person appointed will have special responsibility for setting up a Centre for Jewish Business and Medical Ethics, which will promote research in these areas and develop programmes to raise public awareness, within the Anglo-Jewish community, of the applications of Jewish law and ethics in modern, contemporary society. Appointments will be made at any appropriate level, for a three-year period commencing from September 2000. PhD must be in-hand by that date. Salary will be according to UK University pay scales. The successful applicant will also be appointed as a Fellow of the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. The London School of Jewish Studies is a modern Orthodox academic institution, and candidates should be committed to its religious ethos. The LSJS has undergone an exciting period of rapid growth and expansion, and this appointment is seen as a strategic part of its overall academic plan. The University of London is an internationally recognised centre of research excellence in the UK. Here it is in English translation by me (Rachel Amado Bortnick): The "Koleksion Neve Shalom" (publication series of new books in Ladino) announces the "Evropa-Israel" Short Fiction Prize in the judeo-spanish language. Please distribute widely. Contest rules follow: 1. The stories must be written in judeo-spanish, 15-20 pages in length, DIN-A4 (page size?, probably standard, 8.5 x 11 in.), 60 lines, font size 10. 2 The works must be original, and previously unpublished. 3. Send four copies. The first page must have the title and thematic statement. 4. Co-authored works are accepted. 5. Entries must be received by 21 March, 2000, and must be sent by certified mail to: Ediciones Capitelum c/Carcaixent, 14, 28a 46007 Valencia, Espanya 6. Only one prize will be awarded, resulting in the publication of the work as part of the Koleksion Neveh Shalom, by summer, 2000. The jury may suggest the publication of additional entries. 7. The jury will consist of two outstanding persons of Sephardic culture, as well as the directors of koleksion Neveh Shalom and Ediciones Capitelum. 8. The jury may choose not to award the prize. 9. The prize will be announced on 25 April 2000 and will be publicized in the major Sephardic communication media - press, radio, TV and Internet. 10. Non-winning entries will be destroyed. 11.
