Barth" Subject: Contemporary American Jewish Studies Position [HUC-JIR (L.A.)] Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion seeks to appoint a faculty member in Contemporary American Jewish Studies to the Rabbinical School at its Los Angeles campus. This tenure-track position, at the rank of assistant professor, will begin on July 1, 1999. The position includes teaching and mentoring students at the graduate level (in the rabbinical, Jewish education and Jewish communal service programs), and at the undergraduate level (through the Loucheim School for Judaic studies, in conjunction with the University of Southern California). We seek candidates who have completed a Ph.D. (or are near completion) in American Jewish history, sociology, anthropology, or a related field and are committed to serious research. S/he must have a strong background in Judaic studies, as well as proficiency in Hebrew. HUC-JIR faculty members are expected to be of service to the Jewish community and to participate in the communal and religious life of a Reform Jewish seminary.
