Levinson Subject: Position in Rabbinics at the University of Minnesota The Department of Classical and Near Eastern Studies at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, is seeking to make an appointment in Rabbinics at either the untenured (tenure-track) Assistant-Professor level or tenured Associate-Professor level, depending on qualifications and experience and consistent with collegiate and university policy. While exact research specialization, period, and methodology are open (and may include Dead Sea Scrolls or gender studies), candidates must control the primary languages and textual sources relevant to the scholarly analysis of classical Judaism. Candidates should have a strong research agenda and a firm commitment to undergraduate teaching. This position provides an opportunity to join an expanding department with strengths in Near East, Bible, and the Graeco-Roman world from classical antiquity through the medieval period. The candidate would contribute by having a research interest in the cultural and intellectual context of Rabbinic sources. Ideally, the candidate would have training in appropriate ancillary disciplines such as religious studies and have a broader interest in current issues in Jewish Studies and the humanities. Ph.D. must be in hand by August 15, 1999.
