Under Separate Cover, send Full Payment, with a complete set of all forms, to the AJS Office. Letter of Invitation from Lawrence H. Schiffman February 15, 1996 Dear Colleague: It is my pleasure to invite you to submit proposals for individual papers or thematic sessions to be presented at our 28th Annual Conference, to be held at the Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston from December 15-17, 1996. Program proposals must be postmarked by March 29. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES All proposals are to be submitted in duplicate. One complete set, including a typed, double-spaced 500-word abstract, is to be sent to the Section Coordinator in the subject area of your choice. Another complete set, with full dues and conference registration fees, goes to the AJS Waltham office. The names and addresses of the Section Coordinators are enclosed. Please feel free to be in touch with them with any questions regarding your proposal. Please be aware that section names do not reflect an attempt to organize the field in a conceptual manner. Rather, they are a convenient way of dividing the subjects of presentations normally delivered at our meetings. Proposals may be forwarded as necessary. We hope to notify you of our decisions by mid-June. Please do not expect an acknowledgment of receipt before then. If your proposal is not accepted, we will refund your conference registration fee upon request after July 1. It is essential that all materials be sent according to the instructions on the relevant forms and that all fees be paid. No faxes will be accepted. Applications not completed or submitted correctly, or those for which full payment is not submitted to the AJS office, will not be processed. Please remember that papers that have been previously published or presented may not be given, and that no one may give more than one paper or presentation at the AJS conference. ADDITIONAL PROPOSALS FOR PROGRAM COMMITTEE CONSIDERATION The Program Committee, which will integrate and harmonize the efforts of the Section Coordinators, welcomes proposals for plenary programs and other special sessions. Please submit to me any such proposals and other more general suggestions for consideration by the Program Committee. We would also appreciate your help in identifying scholars who do not work directly in any area of Jewish Studies but whose work has a direct impact on the field and whose participation would enhance our conference. By providing the names and addresses of such individuals to the AJS office, you will help this Call for Papers reach the widest possible audience and increase awareness of our association in the scholarly community. GRADUATE STUDENT PRESENTATIONS Advanced graduate students may submit proposals for consideration. They must secure their advisor's approval and have their advisor submit such approval under separate cover on the form supplied herewith. RECORDING OF SESSIONS Please be aware that the AJS has arranged for the recording of conference presentations and that these recordings will be sold to AJS members and others. By submitting your proposal, you are indicating that you consent to the recording of your presentation for this purpose. N.B.: You can still order 1995 conference tapes. A form is printed herein for your convenience. PREREGISTRATION AND BADGES-BY-MAIL This year a new preregistration procedure will be in effect. Those who register before Nov. 1 bypass the on-site registration desk and save $10; all presenters must preregister. Badges, meal tickets, etc., will be mailed to preregistrants beginning Oct. 20. Please keep the AJS office informed of any changes in your address. No mail registrations will be accepted after Nov. 1. All registration thereafter will be on-site. Please remember that all attendees must display badges at all times for admission to conference sessions and to the Book Exhibit. QUESTIONS If you have any questions about program matters, please feel free to be in touch with me, preferably via e-mail: schiffma@is3.nyu.edu; or FAX: 516 773 3684, or by voice, at 212 998 8980.
