The University of Judaism (UJ) in Los Angeles has received a $22 million gift to expand its existing two-year preparatory program at the Ruth & Alan Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies into a full rabbinical school offering Conservative ordination. The new curriculum will require four full years including summer semesters. The endowment was made by a family foundation which has asked that its name not be publicly disclosed. The UJ has been serving the Jewish community since 1947. The University includes three graduate schools, an undergraduate college and the nation's largest Jewish adult education program. Dean of the Ziegler School is Dr. Daniel Gordis. He emphasized that the new school will focus on the study of traditional Jewish texts, spiritual development and practical rabbinic skills.
