Speaker Michael Unsworth

Michael Unsworth, history librarian at Michigan State University, uses PowerPoint and video to how Michigan was threatened by Japanese balloons during World War II. The Japanese army launched over 9,300 balloons from the home islands; two traveled over 7,500 miles to Allegan and Wayne counties. Mr. Unsworth discusses the strategy, design, and use of the balloons as well as their impact on Michigan and the American war effort.
