Michigan in Perspective: Local History Conference

March 19-20, 2010

Dearborn, MI

Registration will open in January 2010.

In order to feature a variety of locations around the Detroit metropolitan area and allow for the conference's growth, the Michigan in Perspective Planning Committee has decided to rotate the annual Local History Conference around the three major counties of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb and the City of Detroit. While the MIP Planning Committee and the Historical Society of Michigan are committed to keeping this key annual history conference in the Detroit area, the movement of the event to locations around the metro area including downtown allows the conference to feature a wide variety of local communities that make up the Detroit metropolitan area.

In the early years of the conference it visited suburban locations. The Local History Conference last visited Dearborn in 1962, just four years after its founding by Dr. Phillip P. Mason. This year the Michigan in Perspective: the Local History Conference returns as we visit The Dearborn Inn. With ample meeting space, free parking, and its designation as a National Historic Site we believe the conference is a wonderful fit with this historic facility built by Henry Ford. Participants will have breakfast in the ballroom that Mr. Ford used for his private parties. They will be able to stroll through the preserved lobby which hosted the auto magnate's guests. In addition to the history you will learn from speakers at the conference, history will be all around you.

The Dearborn Inn is also offering a discounted room rate of $99 for conference attendees that come from outside the Detroit area and locals that might enjoy a "night away". To make a reservation call (877) 757-7103 and ask for the "Local History Conference" rate.

The Michigan in Perspective Planning Committee will be meeting in the early fall to develop the sessions for the 2010 Local History Conference. We expect that initial content will be listed here by early November and the full conference flier in early January.
