Ada Historical Society also endeavors to take permanent care of significant objects for the public good.

August 28-September 27, 2009: Barn Sale Fundraiser - Help raise funds to support local history! Stop by our barn sale and find a treasure of your own to take home. The sale begins on August 28 from 9:00 am - 6:00 pm and continues August 29 - September 27 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. Check our sign in front of the museum for additional hours. Contact the museum with questions at 676-9346 or adahistoricalsociety@gmail.com.

September 20, 2009: Covered Bridge Lecture - Local lecturer, Nancy Smith, will present Covered Bridges. Nancy's love of history has led her to be interested in a diverse range of topics. Her fascination for architecture and unusual structures has evolved into searching out Octagon Houses--and Covered Bridges!--among other things. Nancy enjoys sharing her knowledge on a wide variety of subjects, and has been a frequent speaker for local organizations. At 3:00 pm, we will gather at the Ada Covered Bridge for an introduction then proceed to the Ada Township Assembly Hall for a slide presentation.

October 1, 2009: The Rivers Lecture - Ron Yob, a member of the Grand River Bands of Ottawa Indians will present a Native American historical perspective on the Thornapple and Grand Rivers. The lecture will be at 7:00 pm at the Ada Township Assembly Hall. This event kicks off October in Ada.

October 26-29, 2009: Pumpkin Carving Contest - Kids 12 and under please drop off your carved pumpkins at the Historical Society from Monday, October 26 through Wednesday, October 28 to be considered for judging. Call the museum for drop-off hours. At 6:30pm on October 29 we will light the jack-o-lantern display. Awards for funniest, scariest and most creative will be presented in the barn at 7:00pm.
