In the Fall of 2017 Dr. Virginia Summey and Dr. Omar Ali created a course for Lloyd International Honors at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro called “Greensboro: The World Through A City.” The course, intended for first-year students, uses world history as a lens to examine Greensboro history. Over the past five years we have had numerous guest speakers from across the city, as well as collaborations with the Greensboro History Museum.
The North Carolina Friends Historical Society (NCFHS) sponsors two opportunities for those researching and writing about topics relating to southern Quaker Studies. This year the 2024 Hinshaw Fellowship is offered. The Hinshaw Fellowship provides reimbursement funding for a researcher using the Quaker Archives during the 2024 year. The Poole Writing Award will next be offered in 2025. Please apply and/or share with others you know who might be interested.
