Schoenen Gruss, Hanna Schissler [editor's note -- the bibliographic information is as follows: AUTHOR: Fehrenbach, Heide. TITLE: Cinema in democratizing Germany : reconstructing national identity after Hitler / by Heide Fehrenbach. PUB. INFO: Chapel Hill : University of North Carolina Press, c1995. DESCRIPTION: xiii, 364 p. : ill. ; 25 cm. d.r.] 2) Submitted by: Michael Kater I would like to thank both Michael Metzger and Daniel Wilson for their comments and suggestions. I think there has been a slight misunderstanding regarding the "paucity." I was referring to the paucity of materials on culture, not to the paucity of culture per se. The comment I made was based on something I picked up from an H-GERMAN subscriber who is working in the area. I suppose it might well be worth discussing further whether there was a dearth of culture after 1945 or a dearth of histories on that phenomenon, or both. This is a fascinating subject. Michael H.
