But you referred specifically to the Trizone, not to postwar Germany as a whole. On Berlin, a definite must-see is the very recent work by Wofgang Schievelbusch, entitled "Vor dem Vorhang". Sorry I do not have the complete reference here; my copy of the book is still in Berlin! In any case, the best recommendation, not only for the postwar period but also for the earlier ones, is surely one that Michael has also thought of--to consult the vast outpourings of Germanistik, Kunstwissenschaft etc., rather than the indeed all too meager efforts of our particular Zunft. I have no time now to list titles (Tony Kaes' "From Hitler to Heimat" comes to mind for film), but take my word for it, they are numerous. .
