The original focus was two articles in the May 1995 _German Studies Review_. In general, the first contributions concerned why postmodern approaches may have been lacking in the study of German history as compared to other histories. In the meantime, the discussion has been transformed into a general discussion of historical methodologies and the definitions (or lack thereof) of postmodernism. While these are certainly valid areas for serious discussion, and while all the contributions we have posted have been noteworthy for the care and thought given to them by their authors, the editors feel that the time has finally come (ten weeks later) to move H-German away from this topic. Consequently, we are going to post those items we have received today, and we will post (in one collective message) any other substantive contributions on this topic that we receive by Friday morning, October 20. Thereafter we will place any substantive contributions on a new file that will be accessible by sending a simple one-line e-mail message. Those wishing to continue the discussion among themselves may then do so privately. The instructions for accessing the new file will be sent on Friday along with any last contributions on postmodern theory. The editors wish to thank all those who have taken part in the discussion -- your words have been spread far and wide in the cyberspace of H-Net, well beyond H-German's 700 members. For your civility, hard work, thoughtfulness, sense of humor, and dedication to your craft, we are all grateful. .
