Alison Owings's collection of oral histories, Frauen: German Women Recall the Third Reich (New Brunswick: Rutgers U. Press, 1995) includes the testimony of a Frau Anna Fest, who was a concentration camp guard at Ravensbrück, Allendorf and Soemmerda, and who, after the war, was interned at the Ludwigsburg, Dachau, and Darmstadt holding camps while awaiting trial by the Allies. Frau Fest's testimony clearly illustrates her ambivalence concerning her complicity.
