The texts about German nationalism are varied, but I've used Fichte, Schleiermacher, Herder, Treitschke and various nationalism readers. Most useful has been the work of George Mosse, in particular his *Crisis of German Ideology*. It's been some time since I have taught all this, since my focus has been on Weimar and the Holocaust, but you might even want to use something like The Ring of the Niebelung, not the opera (unnecessary punishment for students) but the text of the myth. Good luck.
