Kleinfeld I agree with the comment about German professors generally being reluctant to use e-mail, while their junior colleagues are more ready to do so. In fact, I occasionally get e-mail from senior colleagues typed into the computer by an Assistent/in. Part of the problem lies in the fact that the Informatik people tend to control in German universities, and hard wiring or ethernet is still rare. Modems at home are a problem due to the Bundespost.
