About Article Reviews |
One of the most important and valued services of H-German and other scholarly forums is providing book reviews. H-German will now begin to complement its book review offerings with a new service: article reviews. Too often, important journal articles go without direct comment -- except in the footnotes or introductory historiographical sections of works that appear years later. We believe that the technology of the Internet makes it possible for us now to offer rigorous, timely, and inexpensive (free!) comment -- and perhaps even provoke discussion and debate.
All article reviews will be fairly short -- 1,000 words at most, in keeping with the length of our book reviews and comments by subscribers who have let us know that scrolling through screen after screen quickly forces them to lose patience.
If you would like to suggest articles for review, please send the full citation to the editors at h-german@h-net.msu.edu -- feel free to suggest items you yourself may have written. While we cannot promise to include all suggested articles, we will give them every consideration. If you would like to review an article in your field, please let me know by sending a short statement of your areas of interest.
We want the article reviews to have every bit as much integrity as our book reviews, so we cannot accept unsolicited reviews, nor can we accept requests from those who wish to review a specific article. H-German subscribers are always free to use H-German to air substantive comments on any article they wish, but unless their comments have been solicited in advance, the comments will not be distributed as formal article reviews.
Article reviews will be permanently stored on our servers and will be, in essence, a publication that is available to anyone in the world with Internet access. Authors of reviews will retain all copyrights.
