Philip Beidler is preparing a book on the subject of popular culture and
American memory. He has published an article on this topic:

"South Pacific and American Remembering"

Journal of American Studies 1993 27(2) 207-222

It discusses how World War II has been remembered in American popular
culture utilizing the example of Rodgers and Hammerstein's 1949 musical
South Pacific.
