Thanx to Arieh Lebowitz for this offer. SW +++++ +++++ +++++ +++++ +++++ +++++ +++++ +++++
While the immigrant Jewish community played a prominent role in the development of trade unionism in the United States [and Canada], the relationship between the Jewish labor movement and Jewish religiuous belief and practice was, I would suspect, be very different than that of Polish, Italian and Irish immigrants. At any rate, if anyone would like a basic bibliography on the Jewish labor movement which I've prepared,and recently updated, just send a self-addressed envelope (two 32c stamps US please!) and mark Aprl 95 JLM Bibliopgraphy on YOUR envelope to me:

AMERICAN JEWISH HISTORY TEXTS
-> Penny Schine Gold <pgold@knox.edu>
In an earlier posting, I asked for suggestions of a background textbook in American Jewish history, to replace Jonathan Sarna's collection of essays, AMERICAN JEWISH EXPERIENCE, which was unavailable this winter. Here are the initial replies I received.
First of all, the good news is that Sarna's collection is only out of stock, not out of print, and a new printing will be made this spring. Other books suggested:
THE SYNAGOGUE
JEWS IN AMERICA (reported as back in print)
an article by each of the authors of the AJHS five-volume history; each author sums up his or her argument for the period worked on; about 100 pages
AMERICAN ETHNIC GROUPS (later reprinted as a little book by Harvard)
Thanks to those who offered suggestions:
Morton Merowitz, Jonathan Sarna, Daniel Soyer. And of course, I welcome any other suggestions. An updated bibliography will be posted as warranted.
