Mimi:

A good place to begin regarding Chinese Christianity in Hawaii is
Diane Mei Lin Mark's _Seasons of Light: The History of Chinese
Christian Churches in Hawaii_ (Honolulu: Chinese Christian
Association of Hawaii, 1989). This books is primarily a
historical survey. More interpretative analysis is needed.

My article in the forthcoming issue of _Amerasia Journal_ (BTW,
the entire issue will be devoted to the study of Asian American
religions) explores the religious nationalism among Chinese
Protestants in North America at the turn of the century. I'm
certain that there was a Hawaiian connection among Chinese
Protestants.

Finally, you may be interested in the Asian American religions
consultation at the American Academy of Religion meeting in New
Orleans this Nov. 23-26. The consultation will examine the
transnational phenomena of Asian and Asian American Christianity.

Best wishes!
