[David Bedell <bedell@CSE.BRIDGEPORT.EDU> writes:]

In the essay on Islam in J. Gordon Melton's _Encyclopedia of
American Religions_, 4th ed. (1993), I came upon a strange
reference.

Melton says that one of the first Muslims in North America was a
certain Egyptian named Nosreddine, who settled in the Catskill
Mountains in the 1500s. He is said to have killed an Indian
princess and then to have been burned at the stake.

Can anyone help me trace this story?
