Dear H-Ethnic List Members:

A colleague of mine who is not yet a member of this list asked if
I could
forward this request for information. Please respond either
directly to
her at fuhrmanv@gusun.acc.georgetown.edu, or to myself at
wiggersr at the
same host address (@gusun.acc.georgetown.edu). Thank you for
your
anticipated assistance.

Vanessa Fuhrmans:

I'm writing a research paper that compares the reintegration
experiences
of the pieds noirs (french settlers in algeria) in france after
the
french-algerian war and the germans expelled from eastern europe
after
world war II. I want to examine how different concepts of
citizenship,
cultural identity and nationalism influenced how each
reintegrated
in france or germany, how they were accepted and what sort of
social and
political identity each group assumed.
While I'm finding some material documenting the circumstances of
these
migrations and the citizenship laws of each country, I'm having
trouble
finding information that focuses on the reintegrations
themselves,
particularly on the pieds noirs. I'm looking for any secondary
sources or
suggestions for searches. (German sources are fine, but my french
is
pretty limited.)
Can you help?
