Sometime ago, I requested help in locating a guide to
films about Asian Americans, made by Asian Americans. After an
extremely dedicated and lengthy effort by a librarian here, I
can report that the best source seems to be the _Asian American
Media Reference Guide_ 2nd ed. (New York: Asian Cinevision,
1990). The reference guide lists "more than 1000 Asian American
audio-visual programs for rent or sale in the United States." In
addition to the extensive listing of Asian American films, it
also includes works by Asian artists, as well as films by
non-Asians that focus on Asians or Asian Americans (e.g. _Year of
the Dragon_). A third edition is in the works, and they hope to
publish it as soon as they can secure funding.
