Lorenzo Greene (_The Negro in Colonia New England_) says that
only Massachusetts in the colonial period passed such laws (208).
According to Leon Litwack (_North of Slavery_), Mass. reinforced
this law after the Revolution (35), and Rhode Island also adopted
such laws. They were probably rather unenforcable, however.
