I am interested in the sociology of interstitial racial groups in
the American South and other areas of the world. I wrote my
senior thesis on the match between Ira Berlin's hypothesized
"old" free colored group from the seventeenth and eighteenth
centuries and the traced ancestors of the present tri-racial
groups. I am also interested in genealogist Vir- ginia E.
DeMarce's findings on the Goins family's roots in Africa.
