***Note: Can someone do a quick rewrite of this into third person?*** I am principal investigator of a resesarch/planning project that has been extensively studying faculty and student attitudes about and institutional obstacles to using information technology.I am also chairman of the Duke University strategic planning committee for the creative use of technology in university teaching.Wearing both hats, I have surveyed over 450 faculty and 500 students from throughout Duke on their uses of technology, why they use it, what they use, what they want to use, and what helps or hinders that use. We have also completed site visits to a number of institutions this summer so I have a fairly good sense on what large public/private institutions are doing with technology and where they are headed. We are in the process now of writing the Duke strategic plan for technology use, so I have lots of ideas about how technology might impact on faculty in the future. As a long time administrator(formally Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences, later Assistant Provost, and currently Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning), it will be fun to exchange views with the other members of the roundtable. As a member of the faculty(Professor of Political Science) I share many of the audiences interests and professional concerns.
