Gants" To: Melanie Shell Subject: Re: Travel, and presentation title Melanie, I apologise for the delay in responding to your request, but I'm in the middle of a two-stage move (Charlottesville to Athens last week, old apartment to new apartment this week). I hope I haven't caused too many planning headaches. >> Can you please let me know which days you would like to stay here? Then I >> can make the necessary arrangements with the Kellogg Center. Or, we can >> make travel arrangments on this end. Michigan State University requires >> that we deal with a specific travel agency here, Spartan Travel, so if you >> want us to take care of the ticket, please let me know and we can discuss >> dates and times. etc. Your previous message indicated that I'd be speaking on the opening day of the conference, i.e., Friday the 26th. If I'm scheduled late enough in the day I should be able to fly into town that morning, stay over one night, then leave Saturday some time. However, it may be cheaper to stay Saturday night as well (Saturday night being one of those price indicators in airline ticketing). I'll get a price comparison and let's see if the reduction in the ticket price for staying over Saturday night balances out the extra night's lodging. In any case, I'll buy the tickets down here and submit the receipt to you (Atlanta is, after all, the Delta hub). >> Second, could you please send me a title and two sentence description of >> your demonstration? I want to add this to the final program. How about this: --- "Bringing the Manuscript to the Student: Using Virtual Archival Resources in the Classroom." This demonstration will cover the various digital tools now available for electronically collecting material from archives, both remotely and in-person. It will also illustrate ways of using the collected material in classrooms using inexpensive personal computers. --- By the way, how much time will I have, and what will be the physical circumstances of the demo (audience size, projector and screen availability, etc)? I'm looking forward to seeing everyone up there (and to escaping the Southern heat, if only for a day or two). Yours, Dave -- David L.
