The multi-year oral history project conducted by scholars from the University of Arizona , the University of Houston , the University of Louisiana at Lafayette , and Louisiana State University collected hundreds of oral testimonies and life stories from people who participated in or were affected by the offshore industry. The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Minerals Management Service (MMS) supported a substantial portion of the effort. The History and Geography Department at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is conducting research on the history of the offshore oil and gas industry in South Louisiana . The project, available on line, focuses on the development of the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) and its impact on the region. The project is funded by the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Minerals Management Service (MMS).
