First of all, shut off the fax software on your 520c when using internet.
The software causes conflicts and locks up with the MacTCP software.
Second, make sure you are running MacTCP 2.0.6, it is more stable. And
lastly, you may want to try Interslip instead of MacSlip. I use it and now
that I have the fax software turned off, I have very little trouble with my
SLIP connections on my 520c.
