Web Based Middle School Social Studies

I would like to create a middle school social studies that is based on
web page production. My idea is that the students would be producers
of knowledge that is related to social issues, (i.e. conflict,
prejudice, racism), that were relevant to colonial America and are
still relevant to kids now. My hope is to create a resource page for
others and to encourage feedback/dialogue from around the world. My
classroom will hopefully have 8-10 computers that will all be
connected to the net.
Anyone doing something similar? suggestions? feedback?
