I had done battle with several virus attacks and I highly recommend F-PROT.
It is FREE to school staff when used on personal computers.

I started using it because of a high rateing in a national rag. And have
used it for 4 years since.

The current version is 2.22. It has lots of interesting information about
the various virus that have been discovered. AND best of all it works well.
