Hi. I bought Word Scan Plus version 3.0 in May 95. Found out that WS+ 4.0
was out in Dec/Jan'95, so I sent away for a $10+S/H upgrade from Caere who,
as you said merged/acquired Calera.
In August/Sept 95, however, OmniPage Pro 6.0 upgrade was out for $149. Now
the same upgrade is selling for $129(?) for a limited time. The advantages
are that more of the original formatting are retained by the new software:
Bold, Italics, Font type, Graphics/picture positioning. Another addition
is a color image editor?
WS+ 4.0 does not do color. Color is good for brochures that have to be
scanned in for web page advertising. Some brochures have white on dark
color background, but I dunno if the new OmniPage Pro 6.0 can handle that
yet? I don't even know if OmniPage Pro 6.0 actually does OCR from 24-bit
color files--it would be nice especially if some filtering of some colors
could be done to improve recognition: for example remove these background
green stripes from the blue print on otherwise white background.
Please share any anecdotes that you may have encountered since your
posting.
Best of luck. Regards, Chris K. Skinner.
