I'm going to assume you mean the 7.5.3 update. If not, you should go to
7.5.3. If 7.5.3 is giving you the problems, you can try clearing the PRAM
(Command-Option-p-r on startup) and see if that fixes the problem. It has
for several people. You'll have to go through your control panels and
reset a bunch of settings, but it does clear up the problem in some cases.
You may also want to start up with extensions off (shift key down on
startup) and see if you have an extension conflict of some sort.
Also, you should be able to force a restart without pulling the plug unless
things are totally hosed. Command-Control-PowerKey does a hard reset on
most newer machines. Also, at least on the PowerMacs, there should be a
hardware reset switch, either on the front panel or around on the back.
They're little pushbuttons, usually one has a circle and one has a triangle
imprinted on them.
Are you by any chance using RamDoubler? If so, get the latest update
(whatever it is). Some problems have been reported with RamDoubled
systems.
